Move Over World For Our Bad Ass Fashion.

That statement pretty much says it all. Today was one of the best days I have had at Portfolio Center. Ok let me break it down a bit further than that: a few days ago I got invited to participate in what was being called a “fashion workshop” with a woman name Megan Huntz from Italy. That is exactly what was said to me on the phone so obviously I said “Um, Ok . . .” sort of picturing a lesson in dressing better or something. Maybe American’s Next Top Model? Oh god, Tyra scares me. But you put clothes and Italy in one sentence and I will mop floors to listen in on what’s going on.

Well there was no mopping floors. The workshop was held this morning at ten am and was suppose to get out at two-thirty. We didn’t get out until four-thirty and I was not ready to leave. Megan is this crazy fun creative Atlanta gal who attended grad school in Italy for fashion design and never quite left. She is back here designing a line that she is about to launch in Paris and helping with a Coca Cola project in the meantime. She is full of awesome silliness, conceptual ideas and charm. She both showered us with fashion terminology, wild travel stories as well as encouraged us to push the envelope with our thinking. We got to talk about what is missing in fashion, thumb through magazines, discuss the direction style seems to be headed, and created our own brand. That’s right: WE ARE CREATING A BRAND! I am not going to write about what our concept is until it is further along — but trust me when I say there is nothing like what we are thinking going on right now.

Portfolio Center is such a networking machine. I think it is full of people with not only great design skills, but incredibly talented people skils allowing for the students to have opportunities that expand the normal school experience. That is how we kick some butt. This workshop made me realize even more how interested I am in working with fashion and retail branding. There are so many possibilities to change the way consumerism works and make it an intelligent and sustainable process, while maintaining the delight that shopping brings us.
